Press Release: Brett Banasiewicz Takes the Title

ORANGE COUNTY (July 25, 20112) – Professional BMX riders wowed thousands of fans Wednesday night at the OC Fair during the ASA Big-Air Triples contest.  Fresh off the Summer X Games, the riders pushed boundaries in the first of a two-day format that hosts separate live competitions.  The event features the world’s top BMX pros like Ryan Nyquist, Brett Banasiewicz, TJ Ellis, Colton Satterfield, Austin Coleman, Zack Warden, Kyle Baldock, Ryan Guettler, James Foster, Brandon Dosch, Anthony Napolitan, Pat Casey and more.

Twelve of the best riders from around the world showcased their aerial skills in  series of head-to-head “battles” on the ASA Triples ramp: a 195-ft. long course that features a 25 ft. high roll-in ramp, two 25 ft. jumps and a 14 ft high quarter pipe. The final head-to-head battle came down to two-time ASA Triples Champion, Brett Banasiewicz (South Bend, IN), and Kyle Baldock (Gold Coast, Australia).  In the end, Brett Banasiewicz pulled out the win with a run that featured a front flip over the first jump and 1080 over the second jump to opposite flair on the quarter pipe.  He bested Kyle Baldock’s 360 backflip over the first jump to tailwhip backflip over the second jump to downside tailwhip to regular tailwhip on the quarter pipe.  Both runs were spectacular, but Banasiewicz eeked out the win in the eyes of the judges.

“The strongest point of Brett’s run was that he did his hardest trick in the middle of his run and was still able to maintain his momentum for a solid finish on the quarter pipe,” said head judge, Dave Brumlow. “If this is any indication of what’s ahead, the contest tomorrow night is going to be insane.”
